Submit a Resume to Your Student Success Coach

Don't worry, we're going to help you create a fantastic resume for your transition into tech! BUT, it'll help your coach right away to see where you're coming from. It doesn't matter what it looks like, if you have a resume, send your coach Jennay Rechel-Barkley a quick email with it attached.

Prepare Your Remote Workspace

You will be spending many hours in front of your laptop during this bootcamp- make sure your workspace is comfortable, quiet, and productive! Create adequate space on a table or desk for your laptop and a 2nd monitor. A 2nd monitor is critical for writing code and participating in virtual workshops at the same time. Find an appropriate work chair. If you prefer, find some headphones to use. Turn on your laptop camera and make sure you aren't showing us anything you don't want us to see!

Follow this link for more information about our Virtual Learning Expectations and view our attendance policy here: Virtual Attendance Policy .

Please reach out to us if you are having trouble setting up your workspace as described above.

Cultivate a Support System

Prepare to be completely committed and immersed in your bootcamp learning experience. Before you start class it's a good idea to have conversations with your support system, such as your partner, family, and friends. Ensure you have childcare, transportation, and other duties covered. You should absolutely not be working while attending our in-person session. Please feel free to use We Can Code IT staff and faculty as a part of your support system during your time in the bootcamp

Laptop Setup Exercise

Follow these directions to set up your development environment and user accounts.

Learning Resources and Information

This information will help you get a head start prior to your first day of class

We Can Code IT's Educational Androgogy

The Korda Method

Our method creates life-changing learning experiences where students master skills and gain substantive confidence by solving real-world problems on teams.

John Dewey - Project Based Learning

Understand that our current standard educational system is one based on industrial-era ideals of efficiency. Unfortunately, this efficiency is not necessarily focused on the that of student learning. It is for the administration. Bells at 50 minutes and separated classes that focus on teacher specializations, efficiencies in cost/time for the flow of the school system are not the best for students but for the cost and management of the organization.

We understand that methodologies and paradigms of project- and problem-based learning focus on the application of skills we facilitate, but that you put the effort forth to integrate. We value your education more than our industrial efficiency.

Maria Montessori - Self-Motivation

We value Montessori's beliefs in self-motivation, self-discipline, self-discovery. The following principles are deeply held beliefs at WCCI:

  • Provide a carefully prepared environment offering students opportunities to work with materials and gain experience … to develop awareness and skills in a natural, spontaneous way.
  • Understand that the only authentic impulse for learning is self-motivation
  • Flow -- concentration.
  • Appreciation of organization - methodologies (not spaghetti code).
